The “Fostering Sustainable Organizational Development in Kosovo CSOs” is a project funded by the European Union, managed by the EU Office in Kosovo, and implemented by the Forum for Civic Initiatives (FIQ) and the Institute for Development Policies (INDEP). The impact of this project in the society shall be exerted through a 1) grant award scheme for 15 local organizations, contributing to the society in different scopes; 2) establishing a Resource Center, and 3) Sustainability Academy, providing comprehensive training for capacity development in domestic Civil Society Organizations. The Resource Center was established to serve as a primary information source for the Kosovo CSOs on developments relevant to the civil society sector. It is also a source of numerous opportunities for organizational development and capacity development. The Resource Center was established under the premises of the Forum for Civic Initiative (FIQ) in Prishtina.
The Psycho-Social and Medical Research Center (QHPSM) is a non-governmental organization established in 2009, and one of the beneficiaries of the scheme. The aims of the organization include development of science, health and education in Kosovo. The “A Healthy Mind - A Healthy Life” Project by the QHPSM, funded by the EU Office and supported by FIQ and INDEP was developed to promote mental health. The project was planned exclusively for the children in sixth and seventh grades, since literature has shown that 11-12 year olds are in a critical period of development, and they need special care in ensuring normal development.
It is important for the children to be aware of the relevance of inclusion. With different activities, the project aimed to foster the development of team play in children, accentuating leadership and developing constructive communication in them. The meaning of inclusion renders children more open to diversity, and prepares them for a better life in the community. Another very important topic addressed with the children was the phenomenon of bullying in schools. With the aid of social/emotional and creative activities, important messages were conveyed on this topic. Also, in debates over the topic, the project was able to hear and address their concerns as a result of bullying. With technological development, such harassment has crossed the electronic line to turn into “cyberbullying”. Younger generations are an easier prey to this phenomenon, and this project strived to explain how to prevent and how to help others affected by the phenomenon. Knowing that the schools do not provide sufficient information, a special focus was cast on the topic of mental health, and its role and relevance in general well-being. A sound mind, a sound life.
The direct beneficiaries of this project are the students from the two schools where it was implemented. 40% of the beneficiaries are 12 years old, 34.30% are 11 years old, 22.90% are 13 years old, 2.9% are 14 years old. 57.1% of participating students are male and 42.9% female.
